This week we heard from Christa and Alexander who found a way to create a joyful moment despite the disappointment of postponing their wedding. Just a few weeks before their big day was about to take place, the couple had some tough decisions to make. They live in the D.C. metro area, but planned to marry in Tucson where they met and have lots of connections. Although stay-in-place orders weren’t yet in effect, and no COVID-19 cases had yet been reported, they didn’t want to put their family or guests at risk. They knew postponing was the right thing to do, but it was heartbreaking nonetheless, and they were determined to find a way to mark the moment despite the lack of an official ceremony.

“We knew that we had to do something special on April 4—partially as a form of closure for missing the wedding,” Christa explained. Based on their mutual love of hiking, they decided to find a trail that would have few visitors and go for a walk in nature. The trail ends at a rocky outcropping with a beautiful view of the Maryland countryside. “We exchanged our vows when we got to the top of the rocky area, and it felt very meaningful. (I cried, even though I had promised I wouldn’t!),” wrote Christa.

A joyful moment! Christa’s ring features pear-shaped sapphires with a round diamond center stone.

Both Christa and Alex opted for platinum comfort fit wedding bands.

Much to their amazement, Christa and Alexander heard cheering from another part of the cliff. They spied two women in the distance, and unbelievably one of them turned out to be a wedding photographer! It was an unexpected surprise when she hiked over to them and documented the moment! Talk about meant to be.

Congratulations Christa and Alexander. Thank you for sharing your wonderful day with us and we wish you all the best when you celebrate officially in the future.
