Shop our entire selection of Ideal-cut diamonds to find a traditional round diamond that makes a statement or a fancy-cut diamond with an effervescent personality. "
The cut grade is one of the 4Cs that determine the quality and pricing of a loose diamond. The cut grade refers to the facet proportions of the diamond. These proportions affect how light reflects in the diamond to create brilliance.
How many cut grades are there?
There are five different cut grades of diamonds, including Poor/Fair, Good, Very Good, Ideal, and Astor by Blue Nile™. However, you'll never find a Poor/Fair cut grade diamond sold at Blue Nile.
Is Blue Nile's "ideal" cut the same as the GIA's "excellent" cut grade?
Yes. When it comes to round brilliant diamonds, the GIA uses the term "Excellent" for its highest cut grade. Blue Nile uses the term "Ideal" in exchange for the term "Excellent," but they are of the same cut quality.
How is light performance tested?
Light reflects differently in every diamond. Light performance is measured by the GemEx BrillianceScope® Analyzer with spectrophotometer technology. Astor by Blue Nile™ diamonds are tested in this way.
