How the Diamond Upgrade Program Works

The Blue Nile Diamond Upgrade Program allows you to send in your Blue Nile diamond for a 100% credit on new diamonds of at least twice the original price.

1. If you are eligible to upgrade your diamond, send your existing diamond to Blue Nile.
2. From there, our Quality Assurance department inspects the diamond.
3. Once we approve your diamond for the trade-in, we’ll send you your new diamond.

You can also call our diamond experts at 1-888-565-7641 to learn more about our upgrade program and to help you select your new diamond.

When Customers Are Eligible to Upgrade

• Your diamond must be purchased from Blue Nile.
• Diamonds must be colorless and IGI or GIA-graded.
• Your diamond must be in its original condition with the original diamond grading report.
• Any damage to the original diamond will disqualify the diamond from our upgrade program.
• The Blue Nile trade-in program is available for purchases shipped to the US. Upgrades for other countries may be eligible on a case-by-case basis.
• We cannot provide credits or reuse original settings for diamond earrings and pendants.
• Your original diamond must be returned to us and accepted by our Quality Assurance department before your new selection is shipped.
• Personalized jewelry, custom orders, engraved items, items re-sized after initial purchase, Diamond Upgrade program purchases, Clearance, and “Final Sale" items are not eligible for return or exchange.

Eligible Diamonds (GIA, IGI, AGSL)
For your diamond to be eligible for our diamond upgrade program, it must have a certificate from one of the following top grading labs:

• The Gemological Institute of America (GIA)
• The International Gemological Institute (IGI)
• The American Gem Society Laboratories (AGSL)

All IGI and GIA-graded colorless diamonds purchased from Blue Nile are eligible.

Upgrades are available on a like-for-like basis (e.g., lab-grown for lab-grown or natural for natural). In some circumstances, you can upgrade from natural to lab-grown or vice versa.

Minimum Upgrade Value Requirements
The minimum upgrade value is twice the price of your original diamond. You will receive credit equal to 100% of the original price toward the purchase of a new diamond.

You may upgrade one diamond for multiple diamonds, or vice versa, so long as the price of your new selection is double that of your original diamond(s).

How to Upgrade Your Diamond

Before you can upgrade your diamond, you need to take a few steps. Here’s how to upgrade diamonds with Blue Nile.

Getting It Verified
We have a simple verification process for upgrading your Blue Nile diamond. Here’s what to expect once you send in your original diamond.

1. Return the original diamond. The original diamond grading report must be returned in reusable condition. Fees may apply for any damaged or missing reports.
2. Wait for quality assurance. Your original diamond must be returned to us and accepted by our Quality Assurance department before your new selection is shipped.

Any diamond not originally set by Blue Nile must be returned without the setting.

Selecting a New Diamond

At Blue Nile, you can easily find a diamond that outshines your older one. Follow these steps to maximize your upgrade.

1.
Search for a diamond: Use our custom diamond finder, where you can filter by type, carat weight, shape, cut, price, and more.
2. Choose a setting: If your ring setting fits your new diamond and is in reusable condition, we will set the new diamond in your original setting. If your original setting cannot be reused, we’ll return it. We cannot reuse the original settings for earrings and pendants or offer credit for them—we’ll return them to you at the same time as your new order.
3. Speak to a diamond expert: If you have any questions or need help, call 1-888-565-7641 to talk with a diamond expert and find a new diamond that celebrates life’s special moments.
