Sean Kell, Chief Executive Officer
Sean is a seasoned leader who is charged with driving Blue Nile’s strategic vision and continuing to elevate the company’s modern approach to purchasing handcrafted diamond rings and exquisite jewellery online. Before joining Blue Nile in 2019, Sean served as Chief Executive Officer of A Place for Mom, where he was responsible for overall brand management and business expansion. Sean has a proven track record of building successful businesses in ecommerce, digital innovation and product management across leading online retail organizations including Expedia, Hotels.com and Starbucks. Sean holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California. Sean is an avid skier and golfer, and enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.
Dave Fleischman, Chief Growth Officer
As an executive leader, Dave is responsible for setting and executing the new vision for the Blue Nile experience. He is a transformational leader with 20+ years of product management, marketing and technology leadership experience at companies including Expedia, Microsoft and Apple. Dave contributed to more than 20 patents and filings in mobile, big data, media, and e-commerce. His career approach is applying a deep understanding of customer needs through a focused analysis and listening system while building strong team dynamics to build delightful customer experiences. Dave holds a degree in English from University of California Santa Barbara and he has written several novels. He also notes that his very first job in technology was making colour copies.
Jon Sainsbury, Chief Strategy Officer & President International
Jon is a 15+ year veteran of Blue Nile who is responsible for strategic planning, business insights, dynamic pricing, and the growth and development of the company’s operations in more than 40 countries. Previously, he served as Chief Revenue Officer, and before that, held a number of leadership roles in marketing and global business development. Prior to Blue Nile, Jon was an associate consultant with the management consulting firm Bain & Company, working with clients in the retail, consumer products, and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries. He also holds a B.A. in physics from Pomona College.
Katie Zimmerman, Chief Merchandising Officer
As Chief Merchandising Officer, Katie brings a thoughtful analysis to merchandising, sourcing and creating an assortment that ensures the position of Blue Nile as an industry leader. Previously, Katie worked as Vice President of Merchandising at Zale's, a division of Signet Jewellers, where she began as an Assistant Buyer in 2002. Her accomplishments include developing and launching multiple proprietary collections, increasing margin contribution, and partnering with iconic designers and brands, including Vera Wang and Disney. Katie is a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, where she studied textiles and apparel/retail merchandising.
Derek Mullens, Chief Human Resources Officer
Derek’s primary responsibility is ensuring that Blue Nile has the very best people, and that every employee is set up for success. He believes that, “We have a passionate and committed group that wants to leave their mark and own a part of the company’s success. We give them the tools to do just that.” Derek spends his free time skiing on both water and snow and working on his troubled relationship with golf.
Lauren Neiswender, General Counsel
As General Counsel, Lauren handles all legal matters for Blue Nile, and offers counsel to the Board of Directors and employees on topics, such as intellectual property, human resources, tax, marketing, privacy, and more. Lauren works with the various groups that make up Blue Nile, advising on the efforts that are revolutionizing the way consumers shop for diamonds and fine jewellery. When not advising, Lauren takes advantage of all the Pacific Northwest has to offer with her husband and two children.
Steve Gire, Vice President, Technology
As an online business, technology is crucial, and Steve is tasked with leading the creation, execution, and maintenance of cutting-edge technologies that give Blue Nile’s customers the ability to make their special purchases any time and anywhere. As he puts it, “We work in a highly dynamic environment, and are constantly challenging ourselves with new ideas and opportunities to better serve our customers.” Away from his computer, Steve is a passionate Seattle Sounders fan and raises a little athlete of his own.
