I knew she'd be in awe of here ring. I knew she wanted the proposal to be in public. I told her we were going to celebrate paying off the last of our debt by going to dinner at Skies, the revolving restaurant at the top of the Kansas City Hyatt Crown Center. I waited until we had finished our appetizers and had our champagne glasses filled, then I dropped to one knee in the middle of the restaurant, opened the jewelry box, and said "Jenna, will you marry me."
She looked at the ring, then at me, then at the ring. Then, in true Philadelphia native style, she slapped her hand on the table and said "SHUT UP!!!" Then the next words out of her mouth were "IS THAT DIAMOND REAL!?" I responded "Yes, the dimaond is real, but you can't have it unless 'SHUT UP' means 'YES'"
Then she started gushing "YES, of course!!" and leaned down to kiss me. That's when we realized that everyone within earshot of her outburst was watching, and the entire restaurant broke into spontaneous applause.
Thanks Blue Nile for sending me a diamond so beautiful and perfect that it evoked a reaction like the one she gave!
