So, when it came to the proposal I knew I had to include the cat. And not in way that involved the ring tied to a little pillow. I wanted to prove my love for the cat & get a Title change in the process so I set out to create a fake adoption contract complete w/ 14 pages of legal speak, seals, signatures, photos, & details of my title change from "Uncle Tim" to "Dad". I slipped the contract into a FedEx & we headed to NYC for vacation.
On the 1st morning we were in the thick of catching up on the week (we both travel for work & had not seen each other for days) going through household discussions & looking at mail when I pulled out the package.
Tim-"- This came for package.
Tim-"- This- you." Angela-&quo- t;What is it?" Tim-"It looks like something important. I had to sign for package.
Tim-"- This- you." Angela-&quo- t;What- it" Angela-"- It is from a law firm!?"
She opened the package & flipped to the 1st page..."From the Law Offices of U. Swaited, Long, & Enouph L.L.P" ...she didn't get it (read it again fast if you didn't). Instantly worried at the sight of a legal document, she thought she was being sued. She flipped the page..."Adoption package.
Tim-"- This- you." Angela-&quo- t;What- it" Angela-"- It- Contract"...confus- ed & a bit scared now. On the next page she sees a photo of her beloved cat "Simon" & details of the adoption & my title change to package.
Tim-"- This- you." Angela-&quo- t;What- it" Angela-"- It- Contract"...confus- ed- "Dad".
An- gela-"But you can't be his dad until we are package.
Tim-"- This- you." Angela-&quo- t;What- it" Angela-"- It- Contract"...confus- ed- "Dad".
An- gela-"But- married" Tim-&quo- t;So, I guess you will need this!" (reaching for the nightstand drawer & presenting the ring) Angela-(after long pause & starting to cry) "WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO package.
Tim-"- This- you." Angela-&quo- t;What- it" Angela-"- It- Contract"...confus- ed- "Dad".
An- gela-"But- married" Tim-&quo- t;So,- ME?!" Tim-"W- hat? What do you mean? I just package.
Tim-"- This- you." Angela-&quo- t;What- it" Angela-"- It- Contract"...confus- ed- "Dad".
An- gela-"But- married" Tim-&quo- t;So,- ME?!" Tim-"W- hat?- proposed!"
Ang- ela was not referring to the adoption or marriage. She wanted to know why I had not let her brush her teeth or fix her hair before the big event. It was not like the paparazzi was there. I was going for the big reaction. It took me hours to make that document & plan the proposal & she wanted to fix her self up instead of reading my masterpiece.
Well, after she finished crying, said "yes" & put on the ring, she read the entire 14 page contract (which we now keep in the coffee table drawer) & made some phone calls. She showed her ring to almost everyone in NY & the airport. It has been a few months now & I still catch her dancing with it! I was successful in completely catching her off guard. making her cry, & incorporating her cat. Not to mention, winning me points with pretty much any girl she told the story to (did not fair so well with the guys though).
Later she told me she thought we were adopting a boat?
