Proposal Location: Paris,
Wedding Location: United States
My partner, Chad, and I planned a dream vacation that we would take over the holidays to Paris and London. We'd been together for 3 years at the time we left for Paris, which was a week before Christmas, 2011. Arriving in Paris was so unreal to me. A beautiful rented apartment in the Marais, and we were living just like the locals. I was FINALLY here!
After a few days of sightseeing, which included visiting my great-grandparents' former neighborhood, he suggested we walk up the Champs Elysses for some shopping. It was a beautiful wintery day, the stores and streets were decorated beautifully for the holidays. We shopped all afternoon, stopping to buy my favorite cookies: macarons from Laduree, the best shop in Paris.
We ended up at the Arc De Triomphe, climbed the stairs to the very top, and enjoyed the beautiful view. After some great photos and resting after the climb up, we decided that we'd head back to our apartment, dry off and get ready for dinner.
When we arrived back at our apartment, I sat in front of the TV in the living room to regroup, while he busied himself in the bedroom.
He came out with the box of macarons in the bag they came in and sat next to me and put the bag between us. He nudged it towards me, and I thought he was giving me first choice, which I happily took.
When I opened the bag, there, on top of the box of macarons, was a tiny blue box from Blue Nile. I was stunned.
"What is that??" I asked him.
He smiled and said, "What do you think it is?"
Still in disbelief, with a nervous laugh, I said, "I don't know."
"O- pen it," he said.
Inside was a beautiful band inside. I looked at him in total disbelief, as he took the box from my hand, got down on one knee, told me that I make him very happy and how much he loved me, and asked if I would be his husband. A happily emotional "Yes!" was all I could say.
What made it more special was we had visited my mother before we left the States and he asked her for her permission. So she knew all along, as well as other family members and some very close friends. He did it right.
After sending out many emails and a few phone calls, the reality set in: here I am in the most romantic city in the world, with him...whom I love him more than anything, and how very lucky I am for being engaged to the most incredible guy in the world!
